Under Lei Jun's leadership, 500 workers have been hired to conduct research and improvements for the electric car of the future. According to My Drivers, Xiaomi Automobile plans to build a plant that can produce 300,000 electric cars a year. The new plant will be able to gradually produce 150,000 cars a year. The company's smartphone department is said to be in close contact with Xiaomi Automobile on batteries, imaging devices, logistics and software. Xiaomi's first electric car will go on sale in the first half of 2024.
