Samsung is changing Android update policy: 5 years update

According to leaked information, Samsung will support Android smartphones for 5 years. The South Korean company recently announced that it will provide 3 major updates to its smartphones instead of 2 major updates.

This news was liked by many users and increased the value of the company in the eyes of users. Now, leaks indicate that Samsung will provide not 3, but 4 major Android updates for its smartphones, as well as an additional 1-year security update. The Galaxy S22 smartphone series, which is expected to be launched today, will use Android 12. According to Samsung`s new policy, the Galaxy S22 series will receive all updates, including Android 16. It will also receive security updates for 1 year after Android 16.

With this strategy, Samsung plans to compete with Apple. As you know, Apple also supports long-term updates to its smartphones. Note that this strategy will apply to the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22, Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 series. In other words, mid-range and entry-level smartphones will be able to receive only 3 major updates. A new decision is expected to be announced at the Galaxy Unpacked event.
