DeepMind, acquired by Google in 2014,
has excelled in artificial intelligence projects. The company has introduced a
program called Ithaca, which can be used in historical discoveries. With this
program, archaeologists will be able to analyze historical inscriptions.
Deleted letters can be determined by the time of writing and the geographical
origin of the inscription. Thea Sommerschield, a historian and engineer, and
his team helped create this artificial intelligence. Thea Sommerschield said,
"Import was developed as a complementary tool to help historians."
Thanks to the import, historians will be able to determine where and when each
of the texts was written. According to DeepMind engineers, Artificial Intelligence
provides 62% accurate deleted letters in historical texts and 71% accurate
information in determining the geographical origin of texts. These results are
also considered quite successful. However, ithaca artificial intelligence can
show results based on data collected by archaeologists by traditional methods.
In other words, artificial intelligence cannot do all this on its own without
human intervention. Still, it is considered a successful step for historians
and the world of technology.
