Apple will be compelled to allow users to use third-party app stores and payment systems. The MacRumors website published a report referring to European Commission documents on this subject.
Apple-branded device owners can currently only install apps from the App Store. According to the European Commission, Apple benefits from having a large app store and payment system. Therefore, the Cupertino giant is violating the Digital Markets Act (DMA) for the large companies of the digital medium, which is called the gatekeeper. If the company does not comply with the decision of the European Commission, it will be fined up to 10% of its total annual turnover. In case of repeated violations, the penalty rate can be up to 20%. Apple will also need to make iMessage interoperable with other messaging services.
