WhatsApp was hacked by hackers: more than 500 million numbers were put up for sale

Cybernews has revealed that a well-known hacker forum has sold a database of around 500 million real phone numbers belonging to WhatsApp users.The victims of the leak reside in 84 countries, of which around 20 million are Turkish users. Considering that WhatsApp has more than 2 billion users, the leak puts together about a quarter of those users.

No official statement from Whatsapp yet

At Cybernews' request, the vendor provided a test sample of 1,097 UK and 817 US user numbers, all of which were confirmed to be registered with WhastApp. However, the vendor has not disclosed exactly how the database was created. It is stated that it is enough to say that the hackers have "their own strategy" to collect the data. It should also be noted that WhatsApp has not yet made a statement about this important data leak.
