Users are not giving up on Windows 10!

More than a year passed since Microsoft's release, Windows 11 is still not adopted among PC users. Therefore, Windows 11 is far from dominating over the Windows 10 version. Although various surveys show different adoption rates for Windows 11, overall it seems that most users do not upgrade from Windows 10. A new report from October 2022 by Statcounter also confirms the above. Windows 11 has reportedly grown by only 2 percent since September, reaching 15.44 percent. Windows 10 usage fell less than 1% over the same period. Windows 7, which Microsoft no longer supports, continues to run on 9.62 percent of desktop computers, while Windows 8 and 8.1 together have a market share of 3.14 percent. Only 0.39 percent of computers have Windows XP installed, the legendary twenty-year-old.

Windows 11 system requirements make migration difficult

In addition, it should be noted that the usage share of Windows 11 may be higher in different surveys and researches. However, the inconsistency here is probably due to the different methodologies applied. For example, according to October 2022 Steam data, Windows 11 has a share of almost 25 percent. Windows 10 is 68.94 percent. Steam's methodology covers 30 million "game" focused users. Statcounter, on the other hand, is based on 5 billion page views on 1.5 million websites. The leading reason for the slow adoption of Windows 11, according to the quote, is probably the high CPU requirement. Only systems with at least Intel 8th generation or AMD Zen 2 processors can automatically switch to Windows 11. Another research firm, Landsweper, claims that half of the devices meet these requirements.
