In a session where Jony Ive, Laurene Powell Jobs and Tim Cook spoke, Cook made a statement about RCS. During the Code session, a spectator argued to Tim Cook that Rich Communication Services (RCS) should be used to improve communication between Android and iPhone. “I don't hear our users want us to put a lot of energy into this,” CEO Tim Cook said in response. Thus, Cook stated that iPhone users do not have a special request about RCS.

But of course, many iPhone and Android users want the new RCS protocol, also known as SMS 2.0, to be used universally. Earlier, an Apple executive stated that bringing iMessage to Android would be to their detriment. Another Apple employee defended the platform's iOS feature, saying that many users bought iPhones for iMessage.
