Chrome Will Auto-Change Weak Passwords

Google Chrome has introduced a powerful new feature that uses artificial intelligence to automatically change weak or compromised passwords. The update was officially announced at the Google I/O conference and aims to significantly enhance user security.

When the Chrome Password Manager detects a compromised password during login, it will offer users the ability to automatically update the password. For supported websites, Chrome will generate a strong new password and replace the old one on behalf of the user — but only with their consent.

Previously, Chrome would simply notify users of weak or reused passwords, leaving the update to be done manually. But now, thanks to this automated security feature, the process becomes seamless. Parisa Tabriz, VP of Chrome, stated: “It’s frustrating when you're told your password is weak, but you still have to change it manually. Most users don’t follow through. So automatic password change is a win-win for security and usability.

She also confirmed that Chrome will not change any passwords without user approval, ensuring full control over the process.

This feature is expected to roll out by the end of the year, representing a big leap forward in online security and password management.
