Almost a week has passed since the new models of iPhone, the world's most popular smartphone series, went on sale. But preliminary data shows that the interest of people is still low.
Apple's new iPhone 16 series did not attract the expected interest according to the first sales results. Ming Chi-Kuo's analyses reveal that especially the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models are below expectations. According to Kuo's assessment, based on both delivery times on Apple's website and data from the supply chain, sales of Pro models have suffered a serious decline compared to last year's iPhone 15 series.
According to the analyses, sales of iPhone 16 Pro Max declined by 16% compared to last year, while the iPhone 16 Pro model attracts attention with a 27% decline. In contrast, the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models perform better. iPhone 16 Plus sales increased by 48 per cent year-on-year, while iPhone 16 sales increased by 10 per cent. This data shows that users are more interested in standard models this year, with the large-screen iPhone 16 Plus gaining in popularity.
In total, the iPhone 16 series sold about 37 million units in its first week. This figure is 12.7 per cent lower than last year's iPhone 15 series. In particular, the decline in iPhone 16 Pro models overshadows the increase in standard models and leads to a decrease in overall sales.
Kuo points out that Apple is preparing more stock for the iPhone 16 Pro Max this year. Production units for this model have reached 6 million units, a 106% increase compared to last year, thanks to the higher yield of the tetraprism camera. However, this stock increase does not seem to be reflected in sales figures at the same rate.
It is also suggested that Apple may pursue a more aggressive product strategy in 2025. Kuo states that if the expected demand does not occur in the iPhone 16 series, Apple may try to increase demand in the market with new promotions and strategies.
