Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is coming! iPhones won`t be the fastest anymore

With its most powerful chip available, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Qualcomm has come closer to Apple's processors than ever before, and in some areas it has gone by big margins. New information says that Qualcomm will build on the previous-generation improvements on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

One of the biggest reasons for the performance jump on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was Qualcomm's move to a different CPU cluster. While the company increased the number of performance cores to four in this processor, it reduced the productivity cores to three. This setup will continue in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as well, but thanks to the new Cortex-X4, the core speeds are expected to increase to 3.70 GHz. As it is known, Qualcomm has developed a special processor that offers higher frequencies for the Galaxy S23 called "Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy". It is not known whether the same will be true for the Galaxy S24 with the "Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy", but if it does, we can expect much higher frequency speeds.

However, increasing the clock speed of the Cortex-X4 to 3.70 GHz can significantly increase the power consumption of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, resulting in shorter battery life and higher temperatures. It is also unlikely that Qualcomm will make improvements in the production process to solve this problem, that is, switching from 4nm to 3nm. Because all of the existing 3nm bands of TSMC, which produces Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 at 4nm, are reserved for Apple.
