Will Elon Musk make X paid?

Elon Musk suggested that all X users, previously known as Twitter, may have to pay for access to the platform.

Elon Musk met with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu  "We are switching to a small monthly fee to use the system," said the head of Tesla and SpaceX.

Elon Musk has long said that the solution to getting rid of bots and fake accounts on the social media platform is to charge for verification. While the company clearly has a financial interest in charging users, Musk insisted that making people pay for the service was aimed at combating bots.

X Premium currently costs US$8 (£6.50) per month in the US. The price varies according to the subscriber's country. The world's richest man said he was now looking at cheaper options for users. "We will actually come out with lower prices," he said. "It's a longer discussion but to me it's really the only defence against massive robot armies," Musk said.

As mentioned, there is a risk of losing a large number of users if all users are paid for. This could reduce advertising revenue, which currently accounts for the vast majority of the company's revenue.
