Samsung has announced that it will discontinue the DeX application, which allowed users to mirror their smartphones to Windows PCs and share files seamlessly. Instead, these functions will be handled through Windows Link.
With One UI 7.0, Samsung is introducing significant updates to its operating system. While detailed information remains scarce, leaked screenshots and videos reveal major design and functionality changes. However, Samsung plans to remove support for certain features, including the Windows DeX application.
The DeX application enabled users to mirror their mobile screens to Windows PCs and drag and drop files between devices. However, according to a notice on Samsung’s official website, support for this feature will cease with One UI 7.0. The statement reads: "PC for DeX will no longer be supported from One UI 7.0. We encourage users to connect their devices through the Windows Link feature."
Samsung’s decision stems from Microsoft’s Windows Link, which offers similar functionalities and works with other Android devices as well.
Although the Windows DeX application will be discontinued, the built-in DeX desktop mode, which allows Samsung devices to connect to a monitor for a desktop-like experience, will remain unaffected.
Additionally, One UI 7.0 will also remove some Edge Panel plugins downloadable via Galaxy Store. Samsung’s move aims to streamline its system by removing underutilized features, making it more efficient and user-friendly.
