OpenAI has announced the ChatGPT Projects system during its 12 Days of OpenAI event, providing a way to customize and organize chats. This feature bears resemblance to Google’s popular NotebookLM application.
To enhance the user experience, OpenAI has added a new feature to ChatGPT called Projects. This functionality offers an interface to organize documents and conversations, enabling users to manage their tasks more efficiently. While not groundbreaking, this feature significantly boosts ChatGPT’s productivity. Projects is comparable to Google’s research-focused NotebookLM , but it stands out with its unique differences.
OpenAI introduced the Projects feature on the seventh day of its 12-day event. Users can now organize their chats and documents in a unified space. Currently, this feature is available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Teams subscribers.
However, ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu users will gain access to this innovation in January next year. Projects is accessible via ChatGPT’s website and Windows desktop app. Mobile and macOS users will need to wait a bit longer for full access. This feature will soon be available to free users, though no timeline has been provided.
Creating Projects is quite simple:
One of the most notable aspects of this feature is its ability to deliver customized responses. For example, a project manager can start a new project for creating a website and instruct ChatGPT to act as a coding assistant.
Additionally, users can maximize the feature by uploading relevant documents or transferring existing chats into the project. OpenAI plans to integrate with platforms like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive next year and support more file types.
During the demo, OpenAI revealed a project titled “AGI (Don’t show on live…)”, sparking curiosity. AGI, or Artificial General Intelligence, refers to AI systems capable of learning and solving complex problems across various domains, akin to human intelligence. Unlike current narrow AI systems, AGI aims to achieve general human-like abilities in any context or task.
