Lenovo unveils world`s first laptop with transparent microLED display

Lenovo introduced the world's first transparent microLED display laptop at MWC 2024. Called ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop, the product looks like something from the future.

As expected, Lenovo introduced the world's first transparent microLED display laptop at MWC 2024. The product, also called ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop, which has been appearing in various leaks for a while, seems to have come from the future to the present day. But unfortunately, this is just a concept and the device is not planned to go on sale at least in the near future.

From science fiction to reality: ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop

For now, Lenovo has no plans to sell Project Crystal or the so-called ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop. Instead, Lenovo wanted to showcase a proof-of-concept of the transparent microLED panel and artificial intelligence integration. However, the usage areas of the device are actually not very wide, at least for now. According to reports, such screens can be used in areas such as doctors' offices or hotels.

Lenovo says that Augmented Reality applications will also be possible thanks to a camera that can be included in the system. Since the screen is transparent, the diagram or schematic of a machine part to be repaired can be placed on the object, speeding up and simplifying the processes. Although not many specific details about the device are shared, it is stated that the transparent microLED screen used has a nominal brightness of 1000 nits and a maximum brightness of 3000 nits. Although not disclosed, it is estimated that the screen is approximately 17.3 inches, and although the device appears thin and light, it is estimated to weigh between 3 kg and 4 kg.

Along with the main screen of the device, the keyboard part of the device is not the real, physical keyboard we know. This part, which is a kind of projection, is completely touchscreen. Considering that the pen is also exhibited with the device, Lenovo seems to want this part to be used for drawing. Although it looks very good at first glance, the lack of feedback for touch will negatively affect the experience. Finally, Lenovo does not give an estimated release date for the device, but according to officials, these technologies will start to enter our lives in the next 5 years
