Ken Segall: It`s time for a name change at iPhone

An interesting suggestion came from Ken Segall, who found the ‘i’ prefix in the names of devices such as iPhone, iPad and iMac. The legendary creative director says that this should now be shelved.

Ken Segall, who has made great efforts in the creation of Apple products, especially the iPhone, thinks that the iPhone should change its name. The legendary name, which greatly influenced Apple's image and marketing strategy, expressed this idea in an interview with Wired.

Segall was the creative director of the advertising agency that Apple founder Steve Jobs worked with many times for product promotion. He is known as the inventor of the ‘i’ prefix in the names of iPhone, iPad, iMac and other devices. In an interview, Segall said it was time for Apple to drop the prefix.

Apple is slowly moving away from the ‘i’

According to the experienced name, the letter ‘i’ in the names of the devices meant that they were connected to the internet. However, since all devices are connected to the internet today, this prefix no longer has any meaning. ‘Perhaps there will be marketing experts who will see the idea of Apple abandoning this prefix as crazy,’ Segall added.

Apple is essentially phasing out the ‘i’ prefix. In recent years, the company has released several new devices without the ‘i’ in their names, including the Apple Watch, AirPods, and Vision Pro. While Sigall offers logical arguments for the possible reasons behind this change, it seems like a very difficult decision for Apple to change the name of the iPhone.
