Instagram Announces Edits, Aiming to Replace CapCut

On the same day TikTok and CapCut were banned in the United States,  Instagram  introduced its competitor application. Instagram Edits will be available starting in March.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed the upcoming Edits video editing software on Sunday, coinciding with the day TikTok was legally banned in the U.S. Mosseri also noted that ByteDance’s CapCut, a mobile video editing app, faced the same restriction.

What Will Instagram Edits Offer?

Instagram Edits will enable users to create, edit, and share videos while tracking performance metrics through Instagram Reels. It will support videos up to 10 minutes in length and a resolution of 1080p. Additional features include AI-driven animations, automatic subtitles with generative AI, text layers, sound effects, filters and stickers .

The app is already available for pre-order on Apple App Store for free. Although Mosseri hinted at a February release, the App Store listing indicates that the app will be launched on March 13, 2025.
