Apple users beware! Those who do not update their iOS may be at high risk

CERT-In has identified high-risk vulnerabilities in various Apple products and software versions, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, Safari, Xcode and visionOS.

Computer Emergency Response Team India (CERT-In), a leading cybersecurity organisation, has issued a warning about significant vulnerabilities in various Apple products. The warning identified security risks in multiple Apple software platforms, including iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS and visionOS.

Apple users were advised to update their software

The cybersecurity organisation warned that if these vulnerabilities are not fixed, they could allow attackers to access sensitive information on these devices. The warning coincides with the worldwide launch of Apple's iPhone 16 series.

Here's the full list of updates you need to stay safe:

  • Apple iOS and iPadOS version 17.7 or later
  • Apple macOS Sonoma version 14.7 or later
  • Apple macOS Ventura version 13.7 or later
  • Apple macOS Sequoia version 15 or later
  • Apple tvOS versions 18 or later
  • Apple watchOS version 11 or later
  • Apple Safari version 18 or later
  • Apple Xcode version 16 or later
  • Apple visionOS version 2 or later

CERT-In also addressed the potential impacts if the gaps are not addressed. Users with versions of iOS and iPadOS earlier than 18 or 17.7 may face problems such as DoS attacks, information disclosure, and circumvention of security restrictions.

Older versions of macOS may experience data manipulation, DoS, cross-site script execution problems. tvOS and watchOS products face similar risks, while older versions of Safari and Xcode may be vulnerable to spoofing and bypassing security restrictions.

In response to these security concerns, CERT-In advised all Apple users to install the latest software update on their devices and to be vigilant against unauthorised activity. The organisation also warned users to ensure that the necessary security measures are in place.

This warning was issued just days after the release of the highly anticipated iPhone 16 series, emphasising the urgency of the situation. It is not the first time CERT-In has issued such warnings. Earlier this month, the organisation also warned about vulnerabilities in the Google Chrome browser.
