With iPhone 17 series, Apple will refresh the front camera

While iPhone 16 has not yet been introduced, rumours about the features of the iPhone 17 series continue. The new report says Apple will drop the 12MP front camera on 2025 iPhone models.

Apple has been using a 12MP sensor on iPhones for a long time. Since then, software improvements such as Photonic Engine and Smart HDR have been made, but the front camera has not been improved in real terms. The expected front camera improvement in iPhones is rumoured to be with the iPhone 17 series.

All iPhone 17 models will come with a 24MP front camera

There are no rumours that the iPhone 16 models to be introduced in September will come with a different front camera than previous generations. However, Apple is planning a major upgrade using a 24MP selfie camera on 2025 iPhones. Analyst Jeff Pu says all iPhone 17 models will have a 24MP selfie camera with 6P lens. With the higher 24-megapixel resolution, photos can maintain their quality even if cropped more. The six-piece lens will also slightly improve image quality, as it's designed to correct various aberrations and distortions for each individual element.

Jeff Pu also claims that the 2025 iPhone models will have four screen sizes (6.1-inch, 6.3-inch, 6.6-inch and 6.9-inch). In addition, the processor of the iPhone 17 series will be divided into A19 and A19 Pro. iPhone 17 Slim and other models will have 8GB RAM, while iPhone 17 Pro will have 12GB RAM. Only Pro models will have three 48MP cameras. The flat iPhone 17 will have a 48MP and 12MP sensor, while the iPhone 17 Slim will have a single 48MP main camera.
