The iPhone 16 Pro Max and 16 Pro come with the same 48MP main camera as the previous generation, but the ultrawide camera has been upgraded from 12MP to 48MP. This means the camera will perform much better in most shooting situations, especially in low-light environments. Images will also show more detail and improved color, while the improved resolution will provide additional flexibility in editing and post-processing. The 16 Pro Max’s 48-megapixel ultrawide camera also means significant improvements for spatial video recording. The iPhone 16 Pro can record spatial video at 4K resolution. The iPhone 15 Pro can record spatial video at 1080p resolution.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max uses a tetraprism camera design that offers 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom. Along with the iPhone 16 series, Apple also brought the upgraded tetraprism camera to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro. This means that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max offer at least 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom.

The iPhone 16 Pro shoots 4K video at 120fps for the first time. It is possible to connect to external storage and shoot ProRes 4K at 120fps. Apple also upgraded QuickTake from 1080p to 4K. Apple has made improvements to its thermal design this year to reduce the heating problem experienced in the previous generation.

Apple did not differentiate between processors this year. However, while the iPhone 16 Pro models come with the A18 Pro chip, the standard models come with the A18 chip. Apple A18 processors, which go through TSMC’s 3nm production process, will be especially useful for on-device artificial intelligence processes. Apple Intelligence was limited to the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max because it required 8GB of RAM, according to the company. Since all iPhone 16 models come with a more powerful processor and 8GB of RAM, they will be able to perform artificial intelligence operations much more easily.
