Apple M3 Chip: What`s in it?

Apple, which abandoned Intel with the M1 processor introduced in 2020, continues to develop the M processor family. Following the M2 processor introduced last year, the company is preparing to introduce new generation chipsets.

What will the standard M3 chip offer?

M3, the new member of Apple Silicon, which is expected to be introduced at the Scary Fast event, has been revealed with many details. Mark Gurman, known for his sources close to the companyshared the details of the new processor in Bloomberg's Power On column. According to Gurman, the standard M3 chip will have a CPU array with 4 performance and 4 efficiency cores and a 10-core GPU array, just like the M2 chip. However, it is stated that the cores in the M3 series will reach higher frequencies and the M3 will allow higher memory configuration. In addition, the production of the M3 family in the 3nm process will make this processor a much more attractive option than the M2. The standard M3 is expected to be used firstin the iMac and MacBook Air.

M3 Pro and M3 Max will also be introduced this week

Although M2 Pro and M2 Max were introduced in January this year, Gurman states that these processors will also be updated at Apple's new event.  Allegedly, M3 Pro will be used in MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16. It will have a CPU array with 6 performance and 6 efficiency cores and an 18-core GPU array. It is also among the information that the M3 Pro will have an option with 14 CPU and 20 GPU cores.

The M3 Max, which is expected to power higher-end MacBook Pros and Mac Studio, will also be renewed at this event. According to Gurman, the company's new Max chip. It will have a CPU array with 12 performance and 4 efficiency cores and a GPU array with 32 cores. It is also among the information that M3 Max will have a version with 40 GPU cores.

M3 family will be produced on the 3nm process

Although Apple's M3 family does not have major changes in numerical terms, it is stated that all chips in this family will be produced in TSMC's 3nm process. Thus, the M3 family will be a more efficient and powerful chip. Additionally, some claims state that the M3 family will also support ray tracing technology. At the event to be held on October 30 in the USA, Apple will introduce the M3 family along with many Mac products.
