Opera on Android enhanced with new AI features

Opera has announced new AI enhancements for its Opera for Android browser, aiming to bring the mobile browser’s capabilities closer to those of Opera One, its advanced desktop version.

The first major upgrade is the expanded Ask AI feature, which now has its own dedicated entry point for all AI queries. When you tap the search bar, you’ll see the “Ask AI” option that opens a panel where you can easily switch between traditional web search and AI-powered queries.

Another key improvement is the ability to upload files—including PDFs and images—for translation, summarization, or explanation through AI. To do this, simply open the “Ask AI” panel, tap the “+” button, and select any document or image from your device. You can also take a photo with your camera and upload it instantly.

Opera now also lets AI use your current browser tab as context, making it easy to translate, summarize, or interpret the content of the webpage you are viewing. You can enable this by tapping the three dots in the top-right corner and selecting “Ask AI.” The active webpage will automatically appear as context for your query.

You can continue asking additional questions about the page by simply typing into the search bar.

Opera emphasizes that all AI features are built with strict privacy protection. The AI engine only accesses the content of the active tab and cannot view anything outside of it. According to Opera:

  • Contextual page data is only sent when required for the specific task, and browsing history is never shared.

  • The transferred data is encrypted and stored for up to 30 days solely to maintain conversation continuity for returning tasks.

  • This data is never used for AI training and is automatically deleted after the 30-day period.

These updates are now live. If you don’t see them yet, try updating Opera for Android through the Google Play Store.
