Nvidia has refused to buy ARM for $
40 billion. On September 13, 2020, Nvidia announced that it would acquire ARM
for $ 40 billion. Thus, the company planned to take advantage of all ARM
technologies. However, the purchase process, which lasted for 2 years, failed.
The main reason for this refusal was the
protests of companies cooperating with IRC, such as Google, Microsoft,
Qualcomm, and the lack of consent of government agencies monitoring the
monopoly. Thus, the $ 40 billion purchase process failed. Monopoly regulators
such as the FTC did not allow Nvidia to acquire the IRC. The main reason for
this is the possibility of a monopoly if technology giants such as ARM are sold
to Nvidia. The documents provided by Nvidia to regulators were not considered
sufficient for approval. Therefore, Nvidia has announced that the contract with
Softbank Group, the main owner of ARM, has been terminated. Following the
decision, Nvidia plans to pay $ 1.2 billion in compensation under the contract.
ARM officials said that after this decision, ARM`s share documents will be made
public and those who wish will be able to receive a share document from the
company.
