A new Xenomorph virus that threatens
Android users has appeared in the Google Play Store. The virus has reportedly
infected thousands of Android smartphones. Users` bank accounts are under
threat.
A study by ThreatFabric, a company that
fights fraud and cybercrime, has uncovered the Xenomorph virus, which infects
thousands of Android smartphones. This virus, which is in applications that
claim to increase performance, such as Cleaner, especially targets users` bank
accounts. The new virus may have infected more than 50,000 Android smartphones.
The xenomorph virus has codes similar to those of a truffle horse named Alien.
Once a viral application is installed on a smartphone, it requires some
permissions from the user. When these permissions are granted, transactions can
be made in bank accounts without the user`s knowledge. The Xenomorph virus,
which does all this, disables SMS notifications, leaving the user uninformed.
The virus, which threatens many European
financial institutions such as Spain, Italy and Belgium, is still being
developed. That is not the latest version. For this reason, ThreatFabric claims
that Xenomorph is not considered very risky. However, if the development of the
virus is completed, it can be included in the category of high-risk viruses in
the future. For this reason, the company said that users should stay away from
applications that claim to increase performance through the Google Play Store.
