Meta may introduce a smartwatch this year - TelSat

Rumors that Meta was working on a smartwatch first emerged in 2021, and leaked images in 2022 further fueled speculation. Subsequent reports suggested the project had been shelved, but new information indicates Meta has since revived the initiative.

According to The Information, citing sources familiar with the project, Meta has brought back its smartwatch effort under the internal codename “Malibu 2.” The device is expected to debut in 2026, featuring health-tracking capabilities alongside Meta AI functionality.

The report adds that the project’s revival was discussed during a strategic meeting held at Mark Zuckerberg’s home in Hawaii. For now, no additional details regarding design, specifications, or pricing have been disclosed.

Separately, Meta is also said to be preparing updated Ray-Ban Display smart glasses, internally codenamed “Hypernova 2,” which could be unveiled later this year. The company is additionally developing AR glasses that are expected to launch in 2027.

If Meta moves forward with a smartwatch launch, it will enter a highly competitive market dominated by Apple, Samsung, Google, Garmin, and other major players.
