Continuing its work on the foldable iPhone, iPhone may be developing a foldable model by taking a different path from the general market. Why is Apple preparing such a model?
Apple has been working on the foldable iPhone for a long time. Trying to overcome the problems of foldable phones, the company may take a different path from today's foldable devices.
Nowadays, the majority of foldable phones fold inwards. Thus, the extremely sensitive folding screen is protected from external factors. When foldable devices first came out, Huawei announced the foldable Mate X model. The company later continued this design with the Mate Xs 2.
According to Haitong International analyst Jeff Pu, Apple is working on a model with a screen that wraps around the outside of the phone, similar to Huawei. In this way, the technology giant plans to overcome the folding mark problem, which is one of the biggest problems of foldable phones. In addition, since there is no need for an additional external screen in this design, it is possible to make the phone thinner. The outward-folding design also gives the phone a stylish look and allows using the main cameras even for selfies whether the device is folded or not. However, since the sensitive foldable screen is located on the outside, it becomes vulnerable to impacts.
Analyst Pu suggests that the "iPhone Fold" will be released around the same time as the iPhone 18 in 2026. In addition to a foldable iPhone, there are rumors that Apple is working on a MacBook with a foldable screen. It is reported that the device will have a 20.3-inch screen and will go into mass production by the end of 2025. However, other reports suggest it won't launch until 2027.
