A recent development regarding Apple’s newly introduced iPhone 16 series has disappointed users. According to recent tests, the advertised 45W charging speed for the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro might be misleading.
As you know, Apple launched the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro models with faster charging speeds and bigger battery capacities, but detailed figures were not disclosed during the launch. Recently, it was reported that all iPhone 16 models support 45W charging. However, this information might not be entirely accurate. According to recent tests, the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro do not exceed 31W in charging speed.
ChargerLAB conducted comprehensive tests on the iPhone 16 Pro Max charging speed. These tests revealed that the phone lacks an E-marker chip, and the results were underwhelming, to say the least. E-marker is a chip that controls power delivery and data transfer in USB Type-C cables, commonly used in modern USB-PD charging devices.
To get to the results, the iPhone 16 Pro Max charges at only 30.19W with the official 140W charger and original cable, and 31.86W with third-party chargers. This is far below the previously claimed 45W charging speed. Thus, it’s safe to say that the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s charging speed is capped at around 30W.

For comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro Max had a charging speed of 27W. While this represents an improvement, it may still be misleading for users. Additionally, it’s worth noting that most high-end Android phones today come with charging speeds above 100W.
