Meta (formerly Facebook) will pay $ 90
million in compensation for the illegal use of user cookies. This was the 7th
penalty.
The company, known as Facebook under its
old name and Meta under its new name, will have to pay compensation for the 7th
time in the United States. Thus, the trial, which began in 2012, has already
been decided. The company will have to pay $ 90 million in compensation. The
reason for the lawsuit is that in 2010 and 2011, Facebook began tracking users
through browser cookies, even if they logged out of their accounts. Although
many lawsuits have been filed, some have not been resolved. One of them was
finally decided and the company was punished accordingly. The case was last
transferred to the California District Court in 2020. The trial, which lasted
10 years, ended with a penalty. The company also paid $ 650 million in
compensation for the Cambridge Analytic scandal.
