Covid-19 virus can be identified with a smartphone camera

Scientists at the University of Santa Barbara in California are working on a new test method that will allow you to test Covid-19 using a smartphone. Thus, users will be able to easily test Covid-19 with a smartphone camera and new test kits.

PCR testing is currently used to detect Covid-19 virus. However, this method is quite expensive. Also, not all people can use it because it is limited. With the help of these test kits, people can test Covid-19 with a smartphone camera at a cost of $ 7. So users will get a new test kit from pharmacies for $ 7. Then they will download the Bacticount application developed by scientists to their smartphones. This application turns the front camera of the smartphone into a portable heater. Finally, a sample of oral saliva is placed in a test kit and placed in the front camera of the smartphone.

This test kit uses a reactive substance to bring the viral RNA to a level that can be detected in a smartphone camera. If a virus is detected in the sample while the application is running, the screen of the smartphone turns red. Thus, it is determined whether there is a virus. It can also determine the amount of virus depending on the rate of color change. Note that this new method has not yet been completed. If laboratory tests are successful, it may be available soon.
