Apple is working on a new M2 Extreme chipset with a 48-core CPU and a 128-core GPU. Allegedly, the new Mac Pro model will use this chipset.
Apple has been at the forefront of the chipset market since it began producing its own chipsets. The company, which provides maximum performance to users with M1 chipsets, now wants to push the limits. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said that Apple is working on M2 chipsets for use in Mac Pros. One of them will be the M2 Extreme model. The M2 Extreme chipset will have 48 cores on the CPU side and 96-128 cores on the GPU (video card) side. The most powerful model will have a 128-core GPU. The company is also working on the M2 Ultra (24 CPU cores and 48/64 GPU cores), M2 Max, M2 Pro and M2. Gurman said that the overall M2 chipset series will have the following parameters:
The first devices to use Apple`s M2 chipset are expected to be the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and the updated Mac Mini. These computers will be introduced in early summer 2022. Apple will present the M1 Ultra and Mac Pro with 7K Apple Pro Display at the WWDC conference. Other devices will be updated by the end of 2023.
