WhatsApp announced new video calling features. The platform, owned by Meta, introduced new audio screen sharing feature, higher number of participants and speaker highlighting features in order to better compete with platforms such as Zoom, FaceTime and Google Meet.
With WhatsApp's new screen sharing feature, you can now share audio while sharing videos with your friends during calls. WhatsApp also announced that it has increased the number of participants in video calls to 32 people. Previously, calls could be made with a maximum of 8 people. With another new feature, speaker highlighting, the person speaking now appears first in the list of participants and their picture is highlighted. Therefore, it is easy to identify who is talking.
WhatsApp also emphasised that it recently switched to the MLow codec for better quality calls. The new codec offers better sound quality in noisy environments with its noise and echo cancellation feature, as well as enabling users with faster connections to make calls in higher resolution. WhatsApp said that the update will be available in the next few weeks.
