WhatsApp will block spam messages with new feature

Meta is working to make WhatsApp more secure and better protect user privacy. A feature to help block messages from unknown contacts is being tested.

WhatsApp has launched a new feature in beta that aims to improve user privacy and security. This feature allows users to automatically block messages from unknown accounts, block spam or unwanted communications.

It will block messages from unknown accounts

The ‘Block messages from unknown account’ option can be accessed via the Settings - Advanced menu. Once enabled, WhatsApp will track messages from unknown contacts, and if the user receives a large number of spam messages from someone who is not registered in their contacts, WhatsApp will temporarily block these messages.

The feature that blocks messages from unknown numbers will complement two other privacy-focused options in WhatsApp; Protect IP addresses during calls and disable connection previews to prevent a third party from identifying the user's IP address.
