Updates that increase the use and functionality of the WhatsApp application continue. This time, the platform started testing a new tagging or mentioning feature in Status posts.
The tagging feature, which has been used on Facebook and Instagram platforms until today, allows the user to tag any friend in Story posts. The tagged person receives a message about the post and can open the post instantly.
The tagging feature in Status messages, which appeared in the WhatsApp 2.24.20.3 update, works in the same logic. Users can tag with the @ sign while writing a message. Unlike the Instagram application, tagging in Status posts cannot be seen by other viewers except the relevant friend.
In addition, the tagged user has the option to re-share the status, but the identity of the original sharer remains hidden. The new feature is expected to be available to users before the end of the year, so that posts are a little more focused and not as if they are thrown out.
