What are the camera features of the iPhone 16 series?

Apple has not officially announced it yet, but the iPhone 16 launch event is expected to take place on 10 September. Especially iPhone 16 Pro models are highly anticipated.

Many people claimed that Apple will bring changes such as a higher resolution ultra-wide-angle camera and a capture button. A new report provides detailed information about the camera features of iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro.

What will the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus camera be like?

Both iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will feature dual cameras on the back, a wide-angle main camera that provides 1x and 2x zoom and an ultra-wide-angle camera that provides 5x zoom.

As in the mock-up images, these cameras will be positioned vertically rather than diagonally. The main camera will be 48MP with f/1.6 aperture and 2x telephoto capability in optical quality. The ultra-wide-angle camera will have an aperture of f/2.2. Flat iPhone 16 models are rumoured to support macro photography for the first time.

How will the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max camera be?

As every year, the main change in the camera will be in Pro models. iPhone 16 Pro's will come with a triple camera setup: wide-angle camera, ultra-wide camera and telephoto camera. The telephoto lens will come to both iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The main sensor will remain the same; a 48MP camera with an f/1.78-inch aperture capable of 12MP telephoto shooting at 2x optical quality. This year both models will have a 5x telephoto lens, which will no longer be exclusive to the Pro Max model. The telephoto lens will be 12MP and have an aperture of f/2.8. Finally, the ultra-wide lens will be 48MP and feature the same pixel binning as the primary camera. It will have 0.7 micrometre pixels when shooting at full resolution, 1.4 micrometre pixels when using quad pixels, and an aperture of f/2.2. Pixel stitching and a faster aperture should offer a noticeable improvement in low-light performance. It may also enable 48MP ProRaw photo capture.

New image format: JPEG-XL

It is rumoured that Apple will support a new image format with iPhone 16 and will be called JPEG-XL. HEIF, JPEG, HEIF Max, ProRaw and ProRAW Max are among the image formats now supported.

The capture button will be on all modelsiPhone 16 will come with a new button called the capture button. The capture button will be on all models, unlike the iPhone 15 Pro's action button. The capacitive button will be accessible from the bottom right corner and can only be used with camera apps (Apple's and third-party). The button will perform different functions based on swipe and press intensity.

Apple is expected to announce the date of the September event where it will introduce the iPhone 16 series soon.
