TikTok to Moderate Content with Artificial Intelligence

Social media platform TikTok is laying off hundreds of its employees as it focuses more on using artificial intelligence for content moderation.

One of the world's leading news agencies, Reuters, reported that TikTok has laid off at least 700 employees involved in content moderation. The positions of those laid off will be replaced by AI.

According to the information published by Reuters, over 700 employees in Malaysia have been laid off. TikTok's press service confirmed the layoffs but clarified that 500 people were affected. No specific reason was given for the layoffs.

TikTok has more than 110,000 employees

Additionally, the management of TikTok’s moderation system supports replacing human moderators with artificial intelligence. According to the company’s website, ByteDance employs over 110,000 people in more than 200 cities worldwide, and currently, 80% of the content on the platform is removed by automated technologies.

A TikTok spokesperson commented on the matter, saying: "We are making these changes as part of our ongoing efforts to further strengthen our global operational model for content moderation."
