According to Brendan Carr, commissioner at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the US government should ban TikTok, which threatens national security. However, TikTok is not giving up and is trying to strike a deal with the Foreign Investment Committee (CFIUS) in the United States.
"TikTok threatens national security"
TikTok is not "just another video app" but "a sophisticated surveillance tool that collects vast amounts of personal and sensitive data" directly linked to Beijing's communist dictatorship, according to Brendan Carr, a lawyer who served as a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) commissioner.
A few months ago, Carr asked Google and Apple to remove TikTok from their respective app stores. TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, is currently in talks with CFIUS for a proposal that will alleviate concerns about Chinese government officials' access to TikTok data on US citizens. TikTok also moved US data to servers operated by Oracle. TikTok, on the other hand, is confident that a satisfactory deal with Washington will happen. "Commissioner Carr has no role or direct knowledge of the secret talks between the US government and TikTok," the company said, "and is not in a position to discuss what these negotiations mean." made the statement.
