Since 2010, it has been announced that ICQ, the messaging platform within VK, will close as of 26 June 2024.
VK announced that ICQ, once one of the most popular messaging programmes, will cease to exist. The Russian company announced that ICQ will no longer be available as of 26 June 2024.
It was the most popular messaging software of the 90s
The announcement was published on the application's official website. Those who currently use ICQ are advised to switch to VK Messenger to communicate with friends and family, and VK WorkSpace to communicate with work and colleagues.
Messenger was purchased by VK in 2010 for $ 187.5 million and the application received its last major update in 2020. It is worth remembering that ICQ appeared in 1996. At that time, the messenger was only available on PCs, but over time it was ported to other platforms, including Android and iOS.
