The HD sharing feature was already available for WhatsApp, and now the feature of sharing image and video content in their original quality is coming. The feature will come to iOS users first.
WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature on iOS that allows its users to share their photos and videos as documents to preserve their original quality. As spotted by WABetaInfo, it is stated that with the 23.24.73 update of WhatsApp on iOS, users will be able to easily send original quality media (image or video) as a file.
Original quality sharing feature comes to WhatsApp
This feature was tested by a small group of users in November, but is now rolling out to all iOS users. The changelog notes that this feature will be rolling out “in the coming weeks,” so it may take a while for it to appear on your device, but once it does, you can access it by tapping the “+” sign in chat, selecting “Document,” then “Select Photo or Video.” There is a 2 GB limit for files that can be sent using this feature.
WhatsApp has been testing the same feature for Android users since at least September this year, indicating that a stable version for Android devices is not far away. To send full resolution photos and videos via WhatsApp, it was previously necessary to manually change the file extension to PDF or DOC. Eliminating this extra work makes things significantly easier for users and is an answer to those who want more than the HD sharing feature that WhatsApp rolled out this summer.
