The era of "ad blocking" on YouTube is over

YouTube is taking its fight against ad blockers to mobile devices. YouTube announced that users accessing videos with third-party ad blocking applications may experience problems.

YouTube will now be able to block ads on mobile devices as well. With the update, YouTube announced that users accessing videos with third-party ad blocking apps may encounter buffering issues or an error message that says "The following content is not available in this app".

Last year, YouTube waged a war against ad blockers to encourage users to watch adverts while watching videos or switch to YouTube Premium. Following warnings to users using ad blockers to switch off the plugin, users of such plugins were subject to site-wide throttling.

YouTube has set its sights on third-party mobile apps

YouTube is now changing its policy to no longer allow third-party apps to block adverts because this prevents creators from charging for views. With this change, YouTube appears to be targeting mobile ad blockers such as AdGuard.

"We only allow third-party apps to use our API if they comply with our API Services Terms of Service. When we identify an app that violates these terms, we will take appropriate action to protect our platform, creators, and viewers."

Users who watch YouTube with ad blocking applications will not be pleased with this latest news. The video platform, which maintains its tough stance against ad blockers, does not seem to take a step back.
