In a new study, the best-selling smartphone brands of the last 10 years were listed. The difference between Samsung and Apple draws attention.
Research company AltIndex has published a new report on worldwide smartphone sales between 2014 and 2024. The report shows that Samsung's situation is not very good, but still manages to maintain its market leadership.
The South Korean giant sold almost three billion phones during the decade. This is 33% more than Apple and more than Xiaomi, Huawei and Vivo combined. At the same time, Samsung's sales are constantly falling. In 2014, the company shipped 292.3 million devices, while by the end of 2022, annual shipments fell 18% to 258 million.
Apple ranked second with 2.203 billion. Between 2014 and 2015, iPhone sales increased by 20 per cent to 231 million units. They then declined for almost four years, but started to grow again from 2019, reaching an all-time high of 231.8 million units in 2023.
As a result, over the past decade, Samsung's share has fallen by 10%, while Apple's shipments have increased by 2%. The decline of the South Korean company is explained by the release of many budget smartphones from Chinese brands, primarily Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo.
Samsung currently accounts for 20.8 per cent of the global market, Apple 17.3 per cent and Xiaomi 14.1 per cent. Interestingly, this ratio for the Chinese company is three times higher than 10 years ago and is rapidly approaching Apple.
