Spotify introduces new font Spotify Mix

Spotify announced Spotify Mix, a new font. Combining elements from different font styles, the dynamic and variable font will be used everywhere.

Spotify announced the new font Spotify Mix. The company replaces the current font Circular and introduces the new dynamic font throughout the app.

Styles from different fonts combined

According to Rasmus Wängelin, Spotify's global head of brand design, the name is an homage to the dynamic nature of music culture, which has evolved and changed over the years. Developed in collaboration with Berlin-based Dinamo Typefaces, Spotify Mix is a ‘remix’ that combines elements from different font styles, says Wängelin.

In Spotify's press release, Wängelin states: ‘The result is a sans-serif font that blends characteristics of both classic and contemporary styles, creating a distinctive and unique look. We subtly combined the shapes of sound waves to create a rhythmic feel. The combination of sharp angles and soft curves gives the font a character that is uniquely Spotify.’

The company plans to use Spotify Mix in everything from playlists to marketing campaigns. As it is a variable font, it will be customised in Spotify in different thicknesses and widths to enrich the content.  At the same time, the Spotify text in Spotify's logo will be updated with the new font. The changes will be implemented gradually from today.
