Apple has released iOS 18.1 beta 2 update for developers and enthusiasts. With the update, iPhone 15 Pro users will continue to test Apple Intelligence features.
Apple released iOS 18.1 beta 2 for developers on 12 August, along with the second beta versions of iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Unlike iOS 18 beta 6, which was released on the same day, users must have a device that supports Apple Intelligence to download this update.
Apple Intelligence is compatible with iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, iPads with M1 and newer processors, and Macs. As Apple notes in the release notes for iOS 18.1 beta 2, Apple Intelligence is currently in beta and requires both the device language and Siri language to be set to English (US) and the device region to America. So what are the Apple Intelligence features available with this release?
Apple Intelligence includes Writing Tools, which can be used wherever text can be selected and edited, and can be used for spell checking, grammar correction, rewriting in a new tone, and summarising text.
Siri has a new glowing design around the screen. Siri can follow you when you stumble over your words and maintain context between requests. Safari can summarise articles. Smart replies are available in Messages and Mail. Mail also shows time-sensitive messages and places them at the top of your inbox. Photos has a Memory Film feature to create slideshows based on text descriptions. Finally, you can now record, transcribe and summarise phone calls. Transcribing and summarising can also be used for any audio recording.
Apple continues to test iOS 18 artificial intelligence features under Apple Intelligence with developers and curious users. Apple Intelligence will not be available when iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15 Sequoia are released in the autumn.
