Blue tick is coming to the Gmail application

Blue tick is coming to the Gmail application: Google's blue tick to verify the sender will now be available in the Gmail Android and iOS app.

Google has been offering the blue tick for its email service Gmail for a year. Now the company is bringing the security feature to the Gmail app for Android and iOS.

For those who don't know, the blue checkmark in Gmail helps users verify that the email they receive is from a trusted source and not a scammer trying to steal credentials, banking and other sensitive data. The checkmark is shown to the right of the sender in the email.

The blue tick will be available in Gmail for Android and iOS. On mobile devices, it will be shown between the sender name and date. When tapped, a text will appear indicating that the sender's domain name and logo in the profile picture have been verified.

These blue checkmarks in Gmail for Android and iOS will roll out for personal Google and Workspace accounts over the next few weeks. Meanwhile, Gmail supports a new type of BIMI certificate issued by Certificate Authorities (CAs) that allows a wider range of senders to use BIMI who may not have the registered trademark required for a Verification Mark Certificate (VMC).

The blue verification mark is part of a Gmail feature called BIMI. Google explains BIMI as follows: ‘You can use the Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) standard to add your organisation's logo to email messages sent from your organisation. Email clients that support BIMI will display the logo along with your organisation's messages in the recipient's mailbox. Because logos used with BIMI are verified by a third party, recipients can be confident that the logos in their inboxes are legitimate. To use BIMI, your logo must be trademarked and your sending domain must use DMARC authentication.
