Samsung says it will introduce XR glasses later this year

Samsung announced that it will introduce the expected XR (mixed reality) glasses at the end of this year after introducing new devices at the Galaxy Unpacked event. What will XR glasses offer?

At the Galaxy Unpacked event held in Paris today, Samsung unveiled its new devices. After the introduction of the devices, the company announced that it will introduce the expected XR (mixed reality) glasses at the end of this year.

Earlier this year, Samsung announced that it was working on an XR headset and would launch it in the future, but did not give a date. While the company gives a date for the end of this year, it remains unclear whether this date will be the release date or the introduction date of the glasses. It is likely that after the end of the year, Samsung XR glasses could be released in early 2025.

What will Samsung's XR headset offer?

Samsung's first XR headset is expected to feature a special version of Google's Android operating system designed for XR headsets. On the chipset side, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2+ chipset introduced a few months ago could power the headset.

The XR headset may also use a Micro OLED or OLEDoS display with a pixel density of 3,500 ppi from eMagin, a subsidiary of Samsung Display. Expected to be a high-end device, the mixed reality glasses will work with Galaxy smartphones and possibly laptops. However, Samsung's device could be a direct rival to the $3,500 Apple Vision Pro.
