Bootloader Unlocking on Xiaomi Phones Will End

Xiaomi is making a significant change to its software policies. Starting in 2025, the company will gradually phase out the option to unlock bootloader for its global users.

Unlocking the bootloader allows users to install custom ROMs, root their devices, and gain full control over their phones. This has been a key selling point for Xiaomi, attracting tech enthusiasts who love flexibility and customization. However, after rolling out the restriction in China, Xiaomi will extend the ban to other countries, preventing users from unlocking the bootloader.

By enforcing a global ban on bootloader unlocking, Xiaomi will greatly limit customization options for its users. Many people install custom ROMs to improve performance, apply security updates, or enjoy unique features. Restricting bootloader access will tie users to Xiaomi’s official software.

With the launch of HyperOS 2.0 alongside the Xiaomi 15 series, unlocking the bootloader will no longer be possible.
