Apple Car project cancelled

Apple has stopped its long-standing electric car project "Project Titan". According to Bloomberg, the company will focus on productive artificial intelligence studies.

Apple has halted its long-running electric car project "Project Titan". It is stated that the company announced the news to its employees on Tuesday and 2000 people in the team will participate in productive artificial intelligence studies.

According to Bloomberg, Apple's chief operating officer Jeff Williams and Kevin Lynch, vice president in charge of the project, informed employees about the cessation of the project. It is stated that there will be layoffs as a result of the termination of the project, but the number is not yet clear.

It has long been known that Apple is developing its own electric car. Although there were problems and uncertainties in the project, recent reports suggested that Apple was still working on the project. Earlier this month, Wired reported that Apple covered more than 70,000 kilometres in 2023 using the autonomous driving technology it developed. Bloomberg, on the other hand, said in January that the Apple Car was postponed to 2028.

Why was Apple Car cancelled?

Rumours about Apple's secret Project Titan car project first surfaced in 2015. Apple hired a number of big names to work on the project, including Tesla's former Autopilot software director and the former CEO of struggling EV startup Canoo. But the project appears to have hit a number of roadblocks over the years, including the departure of Apple car chief Doug Field in 2021.

In 2022, The Information reported on problems such as constant staff turnover, ever-changing plans and scepticism about the car project within the company. Another report revealed that the car, which is said to remain below the $ 100,000 threshold, will not come with the advanced autonomous driving capabilities that the company initially hoped for.

Apparently, seeing that the project has reached a dead end, Apple decided to direct its resources and focus on artificial intelligence. The company reportedly spends millions of dollars a day to train its own artificial intelligence model called Ajax. Apple's CEO Tim Cook recently confirmed that Apple will launch its productive artificial intelligence model later this year.
