As expected, Honor introduced its new flagship smartphones as part of MWC 2023. The new series, which includes Honor Magic 5 Pro and Honor Magic 5 models, is quite ambitious both in terms of technical features and camera.
The Honor Magic 5 Pro is obviously the most ambitious point cameras. Honor Magic 5 Pro has already been reviewed by DxOMark and the phone is listed as the best camera smartphone. Honor Magic 5 Pro took the leadership seat with 152 points from DxOMark's tests, but there is more to it. The phone also received the title of "best screen phone" by scoring 151 points in the screen tests. The top model Honor Magic 5 Pro comes in blue, green, purple, orange and black color options. There is a triple camera compartment on the back of the phone. The main camera has a customized 50MP resolution 1/1.12” sensor and f/1.6 aperture. This OIS supported camera is accompanied by a 50 MP periscope lens. Based on Sony IMX858 sensor, this lens provides 3.5x optical zoom, up to 100x high quality digital zoom. Honor states that it experiences minimal loss in zooming with Ultra Fusion Computational Optics. The third ultra-wide-angle lens has an aperture of f/2.0 and is again 50 MP resolution. On the front, there is a dual camera setup with 12 MP + 3D sensor with f / 2.4 aperture.
There are significant improvements on the display side as well, while the camera system is assisted by a host of sensors such as a 3D ToF laser for focusing, a multi-spectrum sensor for color temperature and an anti-shake sensor, as well as advanced software features. The 6.81-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,312 x 2,848 pixels offers 1800 nits brightness and 120 Hz refresh rate. This display can also offer 2160 Hz PWM dimming. Honor states that the display is also calibrated for color accuracy at two brightness levels: 120 nits for indoor and 800 nits for outdoor. In addition, it should be noted that the screen is a 10-bit panel with HDR10 + support and is supported by IMAX Enhanced
Another show of the phone is on the inside of the body. The phone, which comes with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, has 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. It is stated that Honor Magic 5 Pro, released with Android 13-based MagicUI 7.1, has the first Wi-Fi and Bluetooth independent antenna architecture in the industry, which is said to increase Wi-Fi 6 performance by up to 200% and reduce latency by up to 30%. The Honor Magic 5 Pro is backed by a fast-charging 5,100mAh battery with support for 66W wired and 50W wireless SuperCharge.
The Honor Magic5 is similar to its Pro sibling but a slightly more cropped model themselves. The phone, which has a 6.73” screen, offers a maximum brightness of 1600 nits. The Honor Magic 5 eats a similar cut on the camera side. The phone has 54MP main (1/1.49"), 50MP ultra-wide and 32MP telephoto modules. The Magic 5 also has Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, but the phone has 8GB of RAM and 256 storage.
Honor Magic 5 Pro and Honor magic 5 will go on sale in the April-June quarter. The Honor Magic5 Pro will be priced at $1,270. The price of the Honor Magic 5 is set at $ 950.
