Google introduced other devices expected with the new Pixel series at the Made by Google event organised today. Coming up with the new series consisting of Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL models, Google has made a number of important changes in design and hardware. Smarter, more powerful

Although the Google Pixel 9 has just been introduced, almost all the details about this device have been circulating on the internet for several months. This information has actually been officially confirmed by Google. Google Pixel 9 and other members of the family have flatter edges and an elliptical camera module on the back. Pixel 9 will come in obsidian, porcelain, rose and green colours.

When we look at the more specific sides of the device, we are first greeted by a 6.3-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2424 pixels with a refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. Protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, this screen is powered by the Google Tensor G4 chip. This chip is accompanied by 12 GB RAM and up to 256 GB internal storage. Tensor G4 is manufactured by Samsung, as in previous chips. Together with an 8-core processor, this chip has a Mali G715 GPU and an internal NPU. When we compare it with Pixel 8, we see that there is a slight increase in screen size and 12 GB instead of 8 GB on the memory side.

On the camera side, a 10.5 MP selfie camera on the front of the device draws attention. On the back, there is a 50 MP main sensor and a 48 MP ultra-wide angle sensor. In the new design, the camera array is located in the centre and the bar in the previous models is no longer there. On the other hand, the main sensor has Super Res zoom feature and 8x optical quality zoom feature.

On the software side, Google offers Android 14 in the entire Pixel 9 family. As in the past year, the company promises Android operating system and security updates for 7 years for all models. Speaking of software, the Pixel series certainly gets its share of artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, there are also important developments on the battery side. The 4,700 mAh battery can reach 55 per cent in just 30 minutes. However, this requires a new 45W USB-C charger sold separately. Pixel 9 also features fast wireless charging. According to Google, Pixel 9 will offer 20 per cent longer battery life than Pixel 8.

Artificial intelligence is a must

A new feature called Pixel Screenshots helps you save information you want to remember later, such as events, places, and more. The feature will "save and process useful details" from your screenshots, allowing you to search through them. It's similar to Windows' controversial Recall feature, but only works on screenshots. Google is also building a feature called "Add Me" into phones. In this way, it is possible to add a person who is not in the photo to the photo with artificial intelligence. The new Pixels, which also have Gemini integration, also have the Circle to Search and Magic Editor tools from the previous series.

At Google I/O, the tech giant announced Gemini Live, a new way to interact with Gemini in a more natural way. Gemini Live will be available to all Gemini Advanced subscribers. This includes Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners, all of whom will get a year of Gemini Advanced with purchase. Gemini Live lets you have a free-flowing conversation with Gemini directly from your phone or Pixel Buds.

Another exciting feature is the addition of Satellite SOS - when there's no cellular or Wi-Fi coverage in an area and you activate the traditional SOS function, the Pixel 9 will connect to a satellite network to broadcast the signal to the people you choose. This is similar to the Emergency SOS feature found on the iPhone 14 and 15s. According to Google, this service will be free for two years and will only be available in the US.
