Android App Support Returns to Windows 11

Microsoft is bringing back the long-awaited Android app support on Windows 11 in partnership with Tencent. Insider users now have access to this feature. Here are the details…

When Microsoft initially introduced the new Windows 11 operating system, it announced that it would come with Android app support. However, this feature remained in the preview phase and did not fully materialize. Now, Tencent is reintroducing this functionality to beta testers in China.

According to Tencent's announcement, the Tencent App Store is now available to Windows Insiders in China. The store currently hosts popular games and apps such as PUBG MobileHonor of Kings, and Kuaishou. In the near future, approximately 1,500 apps are expected to be available on Windows 11, with access through Bing and Windows Search.

It is currently unknown when Android app support will be available outside of China or which hardware will be supported. However, Microsoft initially launched this feature in 2022 but did not see the anticipated interest due to a limited library. The company plans to end this project in March 2025.

This new collaboration could offer a unique opportunity for Android developers. It is evident that Microsoft aims to bring Windows and Android ecosystems closer, though it may take some time to see what this partnership will yield.
