OpenAI Announces $500 Billion "Stargate" Project

OpenAI partners with Softbank to establish a $500 billion AI data center  enterprise in the United States. This monumental initiative is named the Stargate Project.

The United States welcomes a landmark development in artificial intelligence. The “Stargate Project,” spearheaded by  OpenAISoftbank, and Oracle, entails a colossal $500 billion investment to build an AI data center network. The official announcement, made at the White House, featured Masayoshi SonSam Altman, and Larry Ellison, with support from Donald Trump.


The World’s Largest AI Infrastructure

In a press briefing at the White House, Masayoshi Son (Softbank CEO), Sam Altman (OpenAI CEO), and Larry Ellison (Oracle Founder) unveiled the project’s details, crediting Trump’s election victory for making it possible. Key stakeholders include  SoftBank OpenAIOracle, and MGX. Masayoshi Son will serve as project lead.

Partners like ArmMicrosoftNvidia, and  Oracle  will drive technological advancements, leveraging Nvidia’s AI processors and Oracle’s  cloud infrastructure. The initial phase allocates $100 billion for immediate use, with construction already underway in Texas. If “Stargate” rings a bell, it may recall last year’s $100 billion supercomputer venture by OpenAI and Microsoft.


Trump’s Full Backing

Expected to generate hundreds of thousands of jobs and global economic impact, Trump hailed the project as the "largest AI infrastructure initiative in history" and committed to accelerating its progress through emergency declarations.

OpenAI confirmed that data centers will be exclusively U.S.-based, tailored to meet its needs. Nvidia and Oracle will play direct roles in managing operations.

Additionally, Microsoft announced its partnership with OpenAI will extend through 2030, using  Azure  to develop AI models and scale their deployment into products and services.
