Meta's new AI Studio platform allows you to create AI versions of yourself on Instagram or on the web. These versions will be able to talk to other people.
Soon, when you DM a creator or a page on Instagram, you may receive a response from their AI version. With the new feature, Instagram will now allow creators and business owners to create an AI personality that can answer questions or chat with followers. This AI personality will be made through Meta's AI Studio. For now, the feature can only be trialled by users in the US.
Meta's goal is for creators and business owners to use these AI profiles to talk to their followers on their behalf. Meta says that Instagram users in the US can start using AI Studio through the website or by starting a new ‘AI conversation’ directly on Instagram. In a statement, Meta says that these AI twins can be customised in various aspects, such as links that should be shared or topics that should not be discussed.
However, AI Studio is not just for content creators. Meta will also allow any user to create custom AI ‘characters’ that can chat about specific topics, make memes or offer advice. These AIs will be powered by Meta's new Llama 3.1 model. Users will be able to share their chatbots and track how many people are using them. Other users' interactions with the created AI character will not be visible. This feature is actually similar to initiatives such as Character.AI and Replika.
Meta has actually been working on artificial intelligence characters for a while. As it will be remembered, the company had tried artificial intelligence chatbots that took on the personalities of a handful of celebrities, including Snoop Dogg and Kendall Jenner. In the meantime, Meta says that if there is no misunderstanding, the AI profiles created will be clearly labelled wherever they appear.
